On April 15, 2025, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued the mandatory national standard Safety Requirements for Traction Batteries of Electric Vehicles (GB 38031-2025). Set to take effect in July 2026, this standard not only redefines safety benchmarks for power batteries but also provides critical evaluation criteria for global distributors seeking high-quality Chinese electric vehicles (EVs).     Ⅰ. Policy Core: Leapfrogging Safety Standards The new standard sets “zero thermal runaway risk” as its core objective, with three key technical innovations:   Thermal Safety Performance Upgrade The previous “5-minute escape time” rule is abolished. Instead, battery systems must now prevent fire or explosion for 2 hours after thermal runaway, while keeping cabin temperatures below 60°C. Industry leaders like CATL have achieved this through multi-level thermal runaway containment technology. Their Qilin battery system, featuring ceramic coatings and intelligent cooling, boosts thermal runaway prevention efficiency by 300%.   Enhanced Underbody Protection A new underbody impact test simulates high-speed road debris strikes (30mm steel ball at 80km/h, 150J energy), requiring battery packs to remain leak- and crack-free.BYD’s Blade Battery, equipped with a honeycomb aluminum alloy guard, passed the test with 50% higher protection than traditional designs.   Fast-Charging Durability Validation Batteries must retain safety performance after 300 ultra-fast charging cycles(20%-80% charge in 15 minutes). This addresses global demand for rapid charging. XPeng’s 800V high-voltage battery, for example, maintains ≥90% capacity retention after 1,000 cycles.     Ⅱ. Industry Reshuffle: Quality Divide Emerges The new standards will redefine Ch
